TOWER OF SONG

The standard photographic headshot (8”x10”) was revisited and adapted into a series comprised of 120 ink-on-concrete tablets; representing a “Tower of Song” of 20th century songwriters.  The overarching title directly evokes the words / music / message of a Canadian icon.  These lyrics allude to the irony within the universal role of the songwriter (artist): “you’ll be hearing from me baby, long after I’m gone”.  The physical materiality of the celebrity portrait was converted from the traditional ephemeral paper into framed concrete panels. Obscure local songwriters and iconic figures were included in the assembly of musicians for the installation.
